Comment:
- = Mentha spicata 'Crispa'
- Riddelsdell cited “var. crispa Hook.”, which traces back to M. viridis var. crispa in Hooker’s Student fl. Brit. Isl., ed. 3:316 (1884); he also followed Britten & Rendle's List Brit. seed-pl. ferns 22 (1907), which listed M. viridis as a synonym of M. spicata; taken together, these constitute an indirect reference to the description for the M. viridis var. crispa Benth., nom. illeg., adopted by Hooker (Shenzhen ICN 38.13); Riddelsdell's name is an illegitimate nom. nov. because the epithet crispata should have been adopted and under Shenzhen ICN 7.5 and 7.8, M. spicata var. crispa is typified by the type of M. crispata
